When to submit your tax return

Last updated: 20 May 2026

The new tax year begins on 6 April.

You can submit your tax return for the previous year anytime after 5 April until 31 January the following year.

Example:
For the year 2025-2026, you can file your tax return between 5 April 2026 and 31 January 2027.

You will have until 31 January 2027 to pay your tax.

The best practice is to submit your return as soon as you can. This way you'll know your tax and NI liability and can start making payments towards your tax account.

You will still have until the following 31 January to pay your tax bill.

You can submit previous years tax returns in this App.
